Until the 1960s, Nyhavn was an infamous red-light district.
Another famous building in Nyhavn is the Royal Residence. The former royal palace was built in 1757 by Ole Bernt. It later became a warehouse. He was the property owner until the 1970s when a wealthy businessman, Alf Arp-Hansen, bought it. He renovated the building and opened the doors to visitors. The hotel is the oldest building in Nyhavn.
